Joshua's Hands is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2008 A Servant's Heart Scholarship. In 2004, the organization established the scholarship to reward Loudoun County seniors for community service. The scholarship is essay based and expanded this year to provide three scholarships for the fall of 2008.
The essays were judged on composition, originality and understanding of servanthood. Extra weight was given based on community references. It was clear from Greg’s references that he understated his own service.
Greg captured the future of service when he wrote, “My hope is that those I mentor will in turn develop a heart for service and become mentors themselves.” He let us peek into his own Servant’s Heart when he wrote, “We may not become famous for our generosity or philanthropy. In the end, no one may remember our names, but they will remember the name of Him on whose behalf we serve: the Lord Jesus Christ. A true servant’s heart chooses to serve for the glory of His name.”
Joshua’s Hands is pleased to present A Servant’s Heart Scholarship for $1000 to Gregory Escobar.
Joshua's Hands was established in 1999 in memory of Joshua Guthrie, who was an enthusiastic community volunteer. Joshua’s years of service were cut short by his death at the age of 16. Joshua’s Hands seeks to continue to be his hands of service in the community and to encourage others to serve.
The organization established A Servant's Heart Scholarship to reward a Loudoun County senior for community service. In 2008, the award was expanded to a potential of three $1000 scholarships.
