The first ever Servant's Heart Scholarship was awarded to Lisa Robinson, a senior from Broad Run High School, planned to attend Longwood University. She received a $1000 scholarship from Joshua's Hands to be applied toward her educational expenses.
Lisa worked as a volunteer with the youth group from Riverside Presbyterian Church (RPC). She assisted with Vacation Bible Schools locally and as a ministry to a church in Tennessee. Lisa also participated in a church sponsored missions trip to Atlanta, where the students worked in a soup kitchen, did roadside cleanup, and helped at the local food and clothing bank. The RPC Director of Student Ministries, Paul Snyder, says that Lisa "...has heart."
During her summers, Lisa volunteered as a camp counselor. She earned the respect and praise of her superiors, who designated Lisa to be the Student Assistant Camp Counselor. Rebecca Lemke, Lisa's supervisor and mentor at the camps, said that Lisa is a "...hardworking and selfless individual," who "...always displays a high degree of integrity, responsibility, and dedication."
Lisa also volunteered with HabiJax, a branch of Habitat for Humanity. She considers it one of her most memorable and valuable volunteer experiences. "Upon our arrival to this site, there was only a foundation laid. By the time we broke for lunch, the entire frame for the house was put together. We were fortunate enough to be working with the future homeowner. When she saw what had been done in this time period, she was speechless. It was truly the most rewarding activity I have participated in yet," Lisa said.
